About
I am a senior software engineer with a background in Scala, distributed backend systems, production architecture, and engineering leadership. I am currently focusing on Rust as a natural next step toward reliable, explicit, performance-conscious systems programming.
My career has been built around systems that have to work in production under real conditions — financial platforms, real-time data pipelines, event-driven architectures, services at scale. Strong typing and explicit domain modeling aren’t aesthetic preferences for me; they’re tools for building software that can be reasoned about and changed without fear.
The move toward Rust is a continuation of that instinct: tighter control over what the program is actually doing, failure modes that are visible at compile time, and performance characteristics that don’t require tuning a garbage collector.
Outside pure software, I work on mechanical and embedded engineering projects:
- Motorcycle suspension — servicing, tuning, linkage geometry, spring and damping setup. The kind of work where you have to understand the whole system to get any part of it right.
- CNC machining — lathe and mill work, making parts that need to be right rather than close enough.
- Electronics and embedded systems — hardware interfaces, microcontrollers, systems that sit between software and the physical world.
- Audio / MIDI tools — building tools around musical workflow and signal processing.
- Music — playing guitar in a band context, long enough that it’s just part of how I spend time.
I like systems that have to work in the real world — whether that means production backend services, hardware interfaces, or mechanical components under load. The common thread is an interest in understanding what’s actually happening rather than treating it as a black box.
